The people of Hong Kong are certifiably fashion-obsessed -- and I love it! On my recent trip to this fine city, I was surrounded by billboards and boutiques for some of the biggest names in fashion: Jean Paul Gaultier, Prada, Jimmy Choo, Versace, and hundreds of others. People were spending money hand over fist to make sure they were outfitted in the latest designer items.
Hailing from a city that is quite the opposite (where many will refuse to wear an article of clothing if the brand's name or emblem is visible), it was fun to observe how important these articles were to the people of Hong Kong.
When I asked a friend who lives in Hong Kong why people are willing to spend so much on their clothing and accessories, he said,"Real estate is ridiculously expensive in Hong Kong. What's another $600 for a purse when you're already paying $5600/month to rent a 100 square foot apartment?"
